Type the text you want to be over the line. Now where it has the bold B, italic I, and underlined U, highlight the text by holding down the left mouse button until the text you want to be underlined like a form and run it over with the cursor so it is a color and white. Now click the underlined u.

to make everything underlined, start with a blank page, if you go to the U(nderline) button, at the top of the screen, like the previous person suggested, then as soon as you start typing, it will be underlined.
if you have already typed some words, or just want a few words, then highlight what needs to be underlined, then go to the top of the screen and click on the U.
you can also go to Format, Font, and set it to underline there .

The quick fix would be using underscore (Shift + -) or Underline function (Ctrl+U). However, if you combine them, they will not line up properly. If these are not what you’re looking for, you can alway draw a line and place them anywhere on your document.
Open up a new word document and draw a line. Go to view drawing menu (If you don’t see drawing menu, go to view -> toolbars -> drawing) and draw a line. Copy that line and paste it into your document, drag them to the location that you want, and adjust the size as necessary. To be more precise, hold Alt button while draging or adjusting the lenght of your line. Lastly, you can also adjust the properties of the line such as thickness, color, layout, etc. by right click on the line and seclect “Format Autoshape.”
