How do I get a Cardinal to stay off my cars and away from my windows?

We have had a cardinal “attacking” the mirror on one of our cars and pooping all over it. Then he is sitting on top of my brand new car making a mess on it. He has now started to run into our screen door and also making a mess there. I have tried a mirror from the tree and some sparkling thing to deter him but he has not stopped. What can I do to deter anymore pooping? I love having him fly around and sing but he is messing up our cars.

He’s attacking the mirror on your car because he sees himself, and thinks it’s another male, and he’s trying to fight…anywhere he can see himself, he’s likely to do it…I have no idea how to get rid of him…sorry and good luck.

He might be looking for a mate, and sees one in your car mirror. Can you cover the mirror with a cloth tied on, or an old pillowcase? I can’t think of anything to do about sitting on your car, but it’s probably the mirror that attracts him. Does your screen door have a storm glass on it that reflects his image? Maybe he already has a mate and a nest nearby, and is protecting it. Only time will help this situation.

Spring fever! For the screen door I would tape up some little cutouts or put up window clings. He is thinking he can fly through the door when obviously he cannot! As far as the car, try a small window cling on the mirror so he cannot see himself or like someone else said, cover it. I would take the mirror down and try those cheap disposable pie tins (they are noisy…plus he is probably seeing himself in the mirror.) At any rate, I doubt this will continue through the summer so just bare with it a few weeks if nothing else works.

It is spring and birds are very territorial right now. This male simply sees his own reflection and thinks there is an intruder in his territory. You need to cover your car mirrors up, or just place a cover over the entire car. Also, check out his website for tips on how to get him to stop running into your windows.
