I have a computer running Windows XP and I want 2 install Vista on it, but I have a lot of files I don’t want 2 lose. Does XP transfer the files up 2 Vista even if i install Vista on the same partition?

If your files are on the same partition as your operating system then they will be lost when you install Vista. Back them up on a portable hard drive.

yes, but you must perform an upgrade option instead of a full installation. and as always, make back ups of your important documents / files before starting any upgrade procedure

if you have the upgrade it will but you should have a backup of the data anyway
