Why is it I have to keep remaking copies of my XP Pro Install cd? There is no damage to the disk?

Wednesday, October 7th, 2009

I have an original Micorsoft Windows XP Professional (no service packs). Because I have a good friend in computers, he has told me to make a disk image (an iso) of the orginal and safe keep the original and never use it. So I burned several of these disks on 2x speed to make sure it was done right. I used good media and not the cheap stuff. My drive I burned the CDs on is a name brand drive.

Unfortunately, I have other people at home use the computer and i constantly get spyware due to my two teenage nephews lookng at sites and not know what they are doing. Removing the spyware never is better then a fresh install. I don’t have any data on the HD that is important anyway since I use a External for all my data.

Anyway, every few times I use one of these Install CDs I burned, it will stop on a fiel during installation and tell me it cannot copy it. Now, I store these CDs in a temperature controlled house in a CD case at all times. No scratches or anything. What is the deal?
Cont’d….

I do not understand how the Windows XP Install process can find an error on one of these CDs. Now, I use one of the other CDs I burned and it works no problem for awhile bout after the 3rd install, it gets weird again.

Does this kid of thing happen all the time? I have to start to burn more Install CDs now because the original burns are becoming unreadable. This makes no sense.

ALSO, please dont tell me about virus software and such. I prefer a fresh install once in awhile. I don’t need tips on how to prevent a fresh install. I don’t mind the time it takes. Thanks.

How do I uninstall XP Pro?

Sunday, September 20th, 2009

Okay, so I just installed XP Home on my computer (on the D drive) and i already had XP Pro on my C drive. Now I want to uninstall the XP Pro from my C drive. Is there a way to format the whole C drive? Or even a way to remove XP Pro without having to remove XP Home?
One more thing, in Disk management it says that my C drive is the system drive and my D drive is the ‘boot’. Thought that might be important..

what does “encrypt data to secure contents” really do in windows XP pro?

Friday, August 21st, 2009

“folder>properties>general>advanced>encrypt data to secure contents”

i used this to encrypt a folder containing some text files. i thought encryption will make you inaccessible to users unless you type in some sort of password, but when i did this it just made the folder name into green color and did nothing to the folder or the text files. i could read all the text files.

what the heck is the functionality of “encrypt date to secure contents?
