Why does windows xp fail to shut down or restart from the start menu?

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

I have an HP Pavilion computer with the windows xp home operating system. When I select shut down or restart from the start menu, the computer seems to be shutting down but after a few minutes it goes to a plain blue screen and never restarts or says that it is safe to turn off the power. What should I do to correct this?
I have tried all the suggestions so far and nothing has solved the problem yet.

How can I tranfer data/software directly from a computer with Windows 98 to another computer with Windows XP?

Friday, September 18th, 2009

I need to transfer data/software from my old computer with Windows 98 to another computer with Windows XP. I have tried to do it by transferring onto a CD, but for whatever reason it is not working. My only other option at this point that I can see is to use floppy disks. Is there a way to accomplish a transfer directly from one computer to another using cables of some kind?

How do I move the Start Menu Bar on Windows XP to a different monitor?

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009

I have three monitors. Two are being driven by a dual video card and the third is driven by the on-board video. The Start Menu is stuck on the monitor using the on-board video. I want to move it to one of the other monitors. I went into properties and changed the primary display to one of the other two and it did not move the start bar. An answer to my question is appreciated. I am using Window’s XP and my video card is an NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200. I am using nView drivers to control the video card multiple monitors.
Thanks.
