My printer installer is compatible with Microsoft XP but my computer is Windows Vista?

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009

Well, I got this printer when I still had this computer that was working on XP. Then I got another computer that has a Windows Vista operating system. The CD I have says that I can only install it on computers with XP only. When I try to install it, I can’t, and I can only print stuff but not scan (because it’s not installed).

How can I get it installed on my Vista computer?

Vista will not connect to Small Business Server 2003 R2?

Sunday, June 21st, 2009

I recently set-up a domain on my Windows Small Business Server 2003 Premium Edition R2 machine. Well my office has both XP Pro systems and systems running Windows Vista Business Edition. The XP systems connected to my server (Domain) with no problem but the Vista Business systems can’t seem to locate it. If I search for the shared files on my server under the run command I am able to locate them but as far as locating the domain no luck. I have received a number of error messages ranging from can’t locate the Small Business Server to some router set-up issues, to can’t locate the users or computers on the server. I am confused because the XP systems connected just fine. The http://servername/connect… does not work for me nor does locating the server through the network set-up. Any suggestions will help.

Should I get a 24 port switch or router for this network?

Sunday, May 3rd, 2009

My existing equipment is:
Linksys Etherfast 10/100 8-port Workgroup Switch
Linksys Wireless G broadband router, 4 connections.

I want to have a 15 client network with a central domain server (Windows 2003) to use for file, print, and fax. There are also a few printers I would like to set up as network printers.

With my existing equipment, can I simply get a switch to plug directly into my DSL modem, whereas all the computers and printers will plug into the switch? Should I have the DSL modem plug into the router, from there the switch, and to all my computers? Is there a special switch I need to get for that? Just a little confused about all the hardware and options out there.

Thanks.

How to link computers with printer via wireless network, using XP and Vista?

Saturday, March 28th, 2009

Hello,
I have a primary computer, connected to my wireless network, wirelessly, and connected to my printer, physically. This computer runs on Windows Vista. I have a laptop, which uses the same network, and when I set it up with my printer, it will work, and print. But if I restart the computer it loses the settings and will not work again. I have a feeling that this is a common mistake, or a XP-Vista linking bug. I can supply more information, although I do need assistance.
