Programs that open and run when I start up Windows XP?

Friday, September 11th, 2009

I have Windows XP Professional Edition on my computer. When I open Windows, I have a lot of programs that automatically open and run in the back ground. They are represented by icons in the lower right corner by the clock. How do I stop these things from opening up and running ?

Icons on desktop disappear this happened only after I tried installing a 2nd dvd rw to my open drive location?

Monday, June 29th, 2009

Replaced my original dvd rw drive and then added a 2nd one to the open position in the tower. Once I started up the computer it asked me to continue or set up so I hit continue. The desktop loaded but the search is on going for a drive and then after a few minutes the start up menu and desktop disappear. I am also running Vista.

dhcp server not assigning ip address?

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

i have 12 computers in a domain. The dell server is running windows server 2000 and all the other computers are running windows 2k and xp. All the computers are on the network and contected just fine except for a dell running win xp. This computer was on the network until I added another computer. For some reason it says DHCP server unavailable after i realease and renew my ip address and then it goes ahead and gives me a private address (169.x.x.x). I can manually configure the tcp/ip settings and get to the network files and connect to the internet but I can’t log on to the domain. Any Ideas?

Has anyone had a problem downloading Microsoft Adcenter Desktop?

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

I tried downloading the new Adcenter Desktop (beta) onto my computer and it pops up with an error after downloading saying, “cannot download the application. The application is missing required files.”
I am running a Dell with Microsoft XP and plenty of space to download.
Anyone else experience this?

How can I tell if my XP Media Center edition is 32bit or 64bit?

Friday, April 17th, 2009

I’m trying to install a graphics card driver and its asking wether I’m running XP 64bit or XP 32bit. I think my computer may be 64 bit due to some Media Center Editions being 64 bit and me running an Athlon 3500+. Is there a command or menu I can look this up?

Where can I find the network key saved in XP?

Sunday, February 22nd, 2009

I have 2 laptops running XP. One has the network key stored in it and the other does not. I want to connect both to the network (WPA2-Enterprise if that matters) but I don’t have the key. Where can I find the key saved in the machine so I can type it in to the other laptop? Thanks!

Network Connectivity keeps going down on Server 2003, any idea as to why?

Wednesday, February 11th, 2009

We are running on Windows Server 2003 one several servers. In the past week or so, I’ve been seeing more and more that connections are being randomly dropped momentarily. Today, it happened to the entire network for about 30 seconds, before it returned to full functionality. I’ve never seen this before and the only way I can describe it is its like the network has the hiccups, but its getting slightly worse as time passes. Looking for some ideas as to why it is doing this. Thanks!
