HELP! Intermittent Internet connection problem on Server 2003 based network?

Wednesday, October 7th, 2009

This is a tough problem. I’ve got a large network here using Server 2003 as both DNS and DHCP servers. It has been working fine for months. However, as of late we’ve been seeing only some client computer losing connection to the Internet. What’s weird is they still have valid IP’s and they still have connection to the server itself. Also they appear to be resolving DNS when I ping an address (like Yahoo) However, there is just no return traffic. All the packets get lost :( Meanwhile, the server itself never seems to lose Internet. Now, some people may have made changes to the server config awhile back to put in an Internet censor device. However, they took it out and claim they didn’t change anything. Any ideas of where I could start debugging this problem? THanks!

How do I setup a new workstation for a Windows 2003 Server network?

Monday, April 6th, 2009

I need to know how to setup a new out of the box computer to run as a workstation on our Server 2003 Standard network.

I have all of the information needed to enter at any of the prompts, but I don’t know the process. I helped when the computers were first put in, but I neglected to write the process down.

The workstation will be a WIN XP Pro

You can email me if you like with any other questions.

The following is information on the server:

Dell Power Edge 1900, 4 Gig RAM, duel quad core
MS Server 2003 Standard
File, print, WINS and Application server = Default Settings
DNS server = yes
DHCP = yes
terminal services and remote desktop = no
Okay, I’ll need help with assigning the IP address to the computer, each one has its own, they aren’t generated randomly. We definately did something with IPCONFIG at the DOS prompt.
