Vista will not connect to Small Business Server 2003 R2?

Sunday, October 4th, 2009

I recently set-up a domain on my Windows Small Business Server 2003 Premium Edition R2 machine. Well my office has both XP Pro systems and systems running Windows Vista Business Edition. The XP systems connected to my server (Domain) with no problem but the Vista Business systems can’t seem to locate it. If I search for the shared files on my server under the run command I am able to locate them but as far as locating the domain no luck. I have received a number of error messages ranging from can’t locate the Small Business Server to some router set-up issues, to can’t locate the users or computers on the server. I am confused because the XP systems connected just fine. The http://servername/connectcomputer does not work for me nor does locating the server through the network set-up. Any suggestions will help.

Access Denied Message to SubFolders and Files in a Shared Folder?

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

I have one domain user who gets an “Access Denied” message when he tries to access the subfolders and files for the shared folder called Finance. This is a new user I added in Active Directory today. He was given access to other Shared Folders and has no problem accessing those shared folders. This is a Windows Server 2003 domain and my domain user has Windows XP Professional.

I reset his password in Active Directory and had him create a new one, but this didn’t solve the problem. Can anyone help on this problem?
The Share Folder has Everyone listed for permissions and has the domain user listed under the Security tab with full permissions.
This problem is resolved. For some reason there was an issue on the files server for that specific share folder. I had to take ownership of the share folder and add the appropriate users in permissions. Thanks for your help.

How much is Windows server 2003 different than XP (specifically xp 64-bit)?

Monday, June 8th, 2009

and If u`ve tried windows server 2008, how much is it different than windows server 2003?
I need to use the one that uses least system resources… I`m not even intrested in networking.. but I put windows server in consideration because its more stable (I guess) than xp (I`m talking about 64 bit OSes)… and because it uses less resources than Vista (still talking about 64 bit OSes)..

so, now, which of the two uses less resources? server 2003 or xp?
